Terry Speed reflected on the same issue in a talk earlier this year inGothenburg, Sweeden noting that this is nothing new to statisticians. So what's all the fuss about? Here's another take on the 'big data' bandwagon.
New Industry Standard for managing seagrasses during dredging projects.
Environmetrics Australia has spent the last 4 years working with Gladstone Ports Corporation, environmental consultants, and researchers at James Cook University to help develop and refine a new methodology to manage and protect seagrass meadows during large-scale dredging projects. Unlike conventional methods which typically place limits on turbidity levels, the new approach measures and monitors benthic photosynthetically active radiation (BPAR) directly. A significant challenge was the determination of an absolute quantum of light required to maintain seagrass vitality as well as an appropriate triggering mechanism.
